(click on image for clearer text)<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/israel.naef.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Plugs.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-586\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/israel.naef.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Plugs.jpg?resize=547%2C184&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Plugs\" width=\"547\" height=\"184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/israel.naef.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Plugs.jpg?resize=300%2C101&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/israel.naef.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Plugs.jpg?w=952&amp;ssl=1 952w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 547px) 100vw, 547px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>What to bring:<\/strong> USB cords, USB power adapters. \u00a0Your adapters and laptop power equipment will almost always say 110-230v. \u00a0If it only says 110, don&#8217;t bring it! \u00a0Israel has 220v. \u00a0If you bring any electrical equipment that requires 110v, you will need a transformer adapter, which is bulky and heavy. \u00a0We did not bring one, and did not need one. \u00a0Be sure to not leave your adapters behind when you change your accommodations!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cell Phone:<\/strong> Put your smart phone in Airplane Mode and only<strong> turn on wireless<\/strong> when you need it while traveling, to avoid roaming charges. \u00a0Do not take your phone off Airplane mode until you get a local Israeli SIM card in the phone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>As SOON AS POSSIBLE get a SIM card for your smart phone. \u00a0This is the most important thing you can do to make finding your way around on day one easier!<\/strong>\u00a0 For my Droid Turbo, we had to change settings for the network type to GLOBAL, and it took the guy in the store a while to get it working. \u00a0Bring an IPhone if you can. \u00a0When you remove your US SIM card, tape it to the back of a card in your wallet, so you don&#8217;t lose it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Have a currency converter app.<\/strong>\u00a0 While we were there, it was about 4 NIS (New Israeli Shekels) to one US Dollar. \u00a0The SIM card I got for my droid was about 140 NIS ($35) for one month unlimited talk\/text and 3 GB data. \u00a0I was there two weeks and used only about 1 GB data with all my mapping and searching.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Skype:<\/strong> \u00a0This is great for keeping in touch with family. \u00a0Purchasing the call option for Israel was about $16 or so for the month, and allowed me to call Israeli land lines from the US <strong>before I left<\/strong> to set up reservations and such. \u00a0There is good wireless almost everywhere, and Skype had about a 70% success rate, and re-connects when the call is dropped.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I am happy to report, that we had about a 70% success rate in terms of properly planning and executing the tips above. \u00a0Better luck when you go!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Being a techie, that is what I will discuss first, as the right tech can make things seriously easier.
